Just a quick question, how long after surgery did you all feel comfortable going a decent distance away from a recognised heart hospital?

I'm due for surgery in Mid November so all things considered i should be tap dancing by new years eve....

We had a holiday booked in mid January which we have mentally cancelled but it would be nice for the kids to get away....it is about 3 1/2 hours south of where my surgery will be taking place.

Now if i have any kind of episode i will be fairly near a standard hospital but nowhere near a heart unit...

Do you think two months is too soon to risk or is it totally dependant on the individual...ie, if i have absolutely no issues during my recovery then fine but if i have bouts of iregular heart beat etc it would not be a good idea.

Regards.

Just out of curiosity are you going out into the middle of nowhere?;)

You will be about 2 months out about that time so I would say go for it. At two months out life for me was normal again except for the fact that I couldn't ride the trails yet due to restrictions from the wife.

Go have fun.

A lot will depend upon your recovery, but if you are doing well and pass your post surgery exam (usually at about 6 weeks) with the surgeon with flying colors, I see no reason not to go. Dick and I flew to FL 7 weeks after his surgery for the winter and then took a trip to Aruba about 3 weeks later. I always take hard copies of his records with us wherever we go.

go for it

go for it

Seems to me you will know pretty soon after the surgery whether you have major medical issues, a few minor issues that will probably go away in 2 months, or no issues at all. If either of the last 2, I say go live your life.

hopefully you can wait that long to make the decision up or down.
