Paula,
Good to hear from you again, we've spoken before i think.

If you want to PM me your phone number I'll give a ring and go over a few things with you that are worrying you?? More than happy to do that if I can put your mind at rest a bit as our children are not that dissimilar in age (chloe is 6 in october) and Clo has been on warfarin for over 4 years now.
Love to you
Emma

Paula,

I had my first OHS at 5, and just had AVR in July...I feel for your son - I always wanted to play football as a kid, but was never allowed...My advice is to keep him active, my situation then became an excuse not to do anything - definately the wrong way to go...I had put on a lot of extra weight through the years...When I found out I was going to need the 2nd surgery in February it became my 3rd chance, I didn't realize it was my heart that was the problem I thought it was the weight...So, I set into motion got active and went into training for the surgery...after easing myself back into things after the surgery I got the green light from my cardio...now, my wife can't hold me back - I'm on the treadmill morning & night, even days I have rehab...

As a kid I played softball, basketball and even flag football...As a late-in life golf nut (I didn't start 'til after college), I regret not starting young...it would've been a natural growing up, giving me a competitive outlet as I got older...It would've made my current game a lot less stressful...Just a few ideas...

Justin was born w/ tga,vsd and pulmonary atresia. he had his first heart surgeries at10 days and 18 months, the only sports he wasn't allowed to play were football and lacrosse. over the years he played soccer, basketball, hockey was a life guard and snow/skateboards and surfs.
Justin is not on any meds so depending if he gets a mechanical or tissue might make a difference in what he is allowed to do, Lyn www.caringbridge.org/nj/justinw

Thanks for the replys. Justin looks great and really healthy. Unfortunatly we have been told that a mechanical valve is our only choice. So he is looking at a lifetime on warfarin. He has always been really active with no symtoms, untill recently he gets out of breath now and somtimes gets pains in his heart, which he says is like a sharp burn. His next check up was in september but they changed it to november, then he will have another cardiac catheter. I guess i will figure out what he can do sports wise later. He says he wants to be a sumo wrestler ,i cant think why.He kept on asking for more food so he could put on weight, . Luckly i talked him out of that one :D

And from reading up on here, looks like he will be ok running and riding his bike with helmet and pads. :)
