Hi!
After being very stable for several months my number spiked from 2.4 to 7.0 approx 2.5 weeks later. I cannot summon a reason for this. The only change I can think of is that I started Crestor 5mg several weeks ago. I haven't made any dietary changes of note, exercise has been regular in between bouts with a recalcitrant back (not medicated). There has been a good deal of stress but that is hardly new. Simplest is that I screwed up my dosage, perhaps double-dosed, although I swear I did not. Any thoughts out there?
Thanks,
Emgil

Crestor will increase your INR. It alone may be the culprit.

ROSUVASTATIN (in Crestor) may interact with WARFARIN SODIUM (in Coumadin)

Rosuvastatin may block the breakdown of warfarin by the liver. If this happens, blood levels of warfarin could be increased and this could increase its anticoagulant effect. Warfarin is generally used to prevent your blood from "coagulating" or forming blood clots. When rosuvastatin and warfarin are used at the same time, your blood may be much less likely to clot and this may increase the risk of excessive bleeding. If these drugs are taken together, your doctor may want to monitor you closely when therapy with rosuvastatin is either started or stopped. Blood tests can be used to make sure that you are getting the right amount of warfarin. If you are experiencing problems, it may be necessary to adjust the dose of warfarin. Discuss this potential interaction with your healthcare provider at your next appointment, or sooner if you think you are having problems.

This interaction is well-documented and is considered moderate in severity.

Warfarin is processed in the liver and so are the statins. They often don't work well together.. Thats why I have never taken statins. the other night I was at a medical meeting and sitting at a table with mostly young doctors in their 40's and 50's. I was the only one not on statins!

Hi,

I started Crestor a few months ago and was worried that my INR would go up. They checked me every other week for the first month and my results were all fine. On the other hand, my father, who also takes coumadin, saw an increased INR when he changed from Lipitor to Crestor.

Wonder why I stayed the same. Maybe I'm just lucky. : )

Cheers,
Michelle

Your special, that's why! :D Seriously though, just continues to show that we are all different and what affects one, may not affect another.
