My sister had some really nice meal replacement bars that had 15 gr. of protein (some soy protein) and listed no Vit. K. I've always heard that soy was known to lower INR. But doing some web searching just now, I read 2 articles that said that soy has been know to increase the affect of warfarin. So which is it???

Soy plants store their oil in the beans. The oil contains vitamin K. More suy means that you will need more warfarin.

About a year ago I started eating some foods that had soy in them. When I had my INR tested it was below where it should be. The only thing different was eating soy. I did research and found that it can lower the effects of coumadin. I told my doc about this and he hadn't known that. He didn't say I was wrong, just that he wasn't aware of it. Once I stopped eating soy my INR went right back to normal. So you can either make soy a regular part of your diet and dose accordingly or just not eat much soy. I was looking at a vitamin health drink the other day. I had to read very carefully. No vitamin K but at the very end it had 25% soy, so I decided not to use it only because I didn't know if I would be using it on an everyday basis from now on.

Take Care!

I think that the presence of soy implies the inclusion of vitamin K. Just like the vegetales in V8 bit it does not have to be stated on the label.
