You only sneezed once? That's mere childs play. Wait until the rapid fire sneezes hit, you'll think you exploded! :D

After VR1 my body wouldn't allow me to sneeze, perhaps more psychological than physical, either way, I'm grateful. After VR2, I did sneeze about 2 weeks out and it was just as ouchie as I feared but not as bad as it could be I think.

Don't pinch your nose to suppress the sneeze, however do press on the frenulum below your nostrils, sometimes it can repress the need and keep that pillow handy.

actually-i am very amazed. i have bad allergies.......aagh! hope i didn't just jinx myself! trish

I feel cheated.

Mass General doesn't give 'cute little red pillows'.

Second OHS, my nurse (bless her) made me a wonderful rolled up towel thingee. First one they taped a pillow to a BOARD... I kid you not. It was too heavy for me to lift let alone comfort my chest when I coughed! I learned fast to grab my pillow from under my head if a cough was coming.

I want a 'cute little red pillow'!! :)

it's a heart shaped pillow and it came w/ a marker. it has some "blood vessels" on it and my surgeon wrote and drew on it what he did.kinda creepy in a way...:p trish

I had a white light spiritual experience the first time i sneezed

Very interesting, can you expand please?
Maybe bottle your sneeze and send me some. :)

Possessed with a large sensitive hooter that causes easy sneezing, I too well remember the tender sternum agonies. :(

Laughing, coughing, sneezing...Ah-h-h, some of the finer things post-op.

Those of you who didn't get the red heart-shaped pillow should picket your hospital until they produce.
:D:D:D

As wonderful the care I received both surgeries at Mass General, I sincerely hope I am never again requiring their services! Don't want to go near there again.....but will always be hugely grateful.

Just can't imagine why most heart centers provide those pillows and Mass General doesn't. Certainly a tiny issue.....just a curiousity to me.

It still pains me to think about sneezing after surgery. Al physical therapist came to my house and told me to cross my arms, put my hands on the shoulders and pull shoulders in slightly whenever I felt a sneeze or cough comiming on. It worked :). It minimized the pain. I was a little ticked that neither hospital I was in showed me that trick.
