I'm about 18 months post-op, and I still feel a soreness when I stretch my chest or sneeze. It's right between the pecs, and doesn't hurt bad, but it does get annoying. Just wondering if this will go away with time, or I'm stuck with it.

Could just be tension created by the process and inactivity. See if it stretches out. Mine did, but took a few months.

:)

After 18 months, I imagine it would have stretched out by now. What did your doctor say? When you say "right between the pecs" are you talking the sternum?

it depends on how much streching you have been doing. There is a lot of cartilage and other soft connective tissue in that area. There can be 'muscle adhesions' occurring which seem much tighter than previous experiences with streching tension. Depending on the experience the person has with sports or Yoga I find people don't know easily the difference between 'it hurts' and 'streching'

there are of course other explanations that I have experience with but I didn't see the point of mentioning them. They become clear if they are the case.

I can't say for sure what is causing your discomfort, Marc, but I did not feel comfortable doing anything that stressed my chest muscles for a year or more after surgery. It wasn't until about 18 months post-op that I started back with upper body exercise (push-ups in particular), and it did hurt some for the first few months I was back at it. Now, another year has passed, and I feel "normal" again - no pain unless I over-do it.

I am 18 months out as well. I occasionally get pains in my chest where the scar is located. The pain is mild and usually comes when I've carried something big, heavy or requires a weird hold on it. I do stretching exercises every morning that I learned in cardio rehab. If you don't do any stretching exercises, try it, it may help it go away.
