I have AR to moderate level,
Last few days I have sore throat. This is only on the morning and goes off after some time. Do people with valve problem need to take antibiotics when there is a sore throat.

If your sore throat is caused by a bacterial infection then it would be important to have it treated with antibiotics. However, only a doctor can tell you whether it is bacterial and so you would have to make a doctor appointment. Oftentimes, if the sore throat gets better during the day (is worse in the morning) it may be from post nasal drip while you are sleeping. This can be caused by a cold coming on(a virus which is untreatable by antibiotics), allergies, anything that has irritated your nasal passages and would cause them to drip down your throat while you are sleeping and thus irritate your throat.

If you have a fever then definitely you should call because a fever accompanies both viral and bacterial infections and a doctor would be best able to advise you which one you may be experiencing. Never hesitate to call a doctor or just speak to a nurse in a doctor's office. They are there to take care of you.....but you have to ask!! :)

Hope this helps.

You might also be mouth breathing through the night. There are a lot of things that can help - steroid nasal sprays, antihistamines, and my favorite, saline nasal spray.

I occasionally get terrible sore throats due to allergies; the fall after my surgery I had one for 2 months. Went to the doc many times, always got strep tests, tried everything. What finally worked was a cruise - the sore throat went away as soon as I left home - obviously a midwest allergen.
