Karlynn

you get a good surprise. My brother-in-law and nephew (23) were in a bad roll-over accident on 12/24. They hit a patch of black ice on a freeway entrance ramp, rolled over 2.5 times and the big Ford diesel truck was totaled, but both my BIL and nephew walked away from it (thank you seat belts!!!) and they actually made it up here on Christmas day. When they returned home Christmas evening there was a message from the ER doctor saying my BIL had a suspicious node in his lung, on the xray, and needed to get it checked out.

Last Monday he had a CT scan. The pulmonologist called after it to say he needed a full PET scan done ASAP. So he had it done on Friday. My sister saw the CT report, and as a nurse, said it read "ugly". It showed darkened areas on the liver, enlarged lymph nodes and the node in the lung was rough and spikey not smooth. They were just sure the PET scan (which shows cancer growth) was going to come back horrible.

Today, they went in to talk to the doctor about the PET results. It was completely clear. Nothing "lit up" in his terms. He said that PET scans have a 95% accuracy rating and that if cancer doesn't show up it's usually because it's a slow growing kind (which is also good to hear). My BIL goes back in 3 months for a recheck. If the node is larger, they'll remove it regardless of whether it's cancer or not.

Just on a side note - my BIL takes Coumadin for A-fib. He hit his head rather hard in the accident. The side of his face and above his ear looked kind of purple. But he had no repercusions due to the Coumadin.

Just thought I'd share my good news. It was weighing very heavy on all of my family.

Happy to share in your good news. Hope the node either goes away or stops growing so the next report is just as positive.

So glad your family got such good news, Karlynn and hope that is the end of it!

I'm so glad with all these bad things happening, everything is working out as good as possible, what a relief it must be and What a blessing, Lyn

Great News and Inspiring

Hi Karlynn!

I can't even begin to tell you how wonderful it was to read your news. #1: I'm so very happy for you and yours. It seems as though lately there's just not enough good news and your's is the very best. #2 reason: yesterday I had my catheterization in preparation for AVR and in the process had a chest x-ray. The cardiologist's office called me at home late in the afternoon to tell me there were two "opaque spots" on my lungs - upper right and lower left. They want me to have a CT scan immediately.

Needless to say, last night was a sleepless night and this morning not much better - until I got on to VR.com, posted my own thread (looking for help) and got referred to your posting. What an uplifting feeling reading your post! You have not only made my day, I believe you've made my week - at least for now. Thank you so very, very much and GOD BLESS!

Jan, it's so hard not to think the worst and be frightened. Particularly when you are already facing health issues with your upcoming valve surgery. You just stop to wondering if your stone is picking up speed as it rolls down hill.

I'm glad my BIL's story gave you a lift and a reason to be more hopeful. Take it a day at a time. Enjoy each day and try to deal with tomorrow when tomorrow comes. God bless!

Karlynn:

Guess your BIL & nephew had some guardian angels watching over them. And I'm sure one of them will be hanging around until your BIL gets a recheck in 3 months.

I'm sure they can deal with a little less excitement for a while.
