Hi --

I finally saw Dr. Pepine today to discuss my abnormal echo. For the sake of brevity, (and because I'm exhausted), the bottom line is that the right ventricle is enlarged but the pump's working. Dr. Pepine looked me straight in the eye and said, "No heart failure!" There's some mild dysfunction but not overt, not enough to call. He increased my meds slightly, and said to see him again in six months for a thallium stress test.

He thinks the small vessel disease may be causing the dilation, plus having been a runner for 20 years on top of three pregnancies. And once again, I was told that I have a "funky-shaped heart," (as if four aortic leaflets weren't enough). Hmm ...

He's not sure, but untreated gestational diabetes may have caused the small vessel damage and ensuing symptoms. (Because I was carrying small in all three pregnancies, my old-school OB didn't treat me).

The only remaining question I have is re PH. Dr. Pepine said my pressures looked good on the echo, and that a right-heart cath wasn't indicated at this time. He said the PH would have to be severe to cause right-sided overload.

Here's where I may raise some ire. My primary care doctor doesn't think my newly-diagnosed asthma is coincidental, and that it's related to my condition. He said diuretics work for mild PH, so if I do have it, I'm already being treated. If the SOB worsens, then I'll follow Nancy's advice and pursue a local PH specialist.

The great news is that Dr. Pepine doesn't think I'll need to be on medications in a year. I'm going to hold fast to this HOPE, perhaps take some time away from the computer, and sleep very, very well tonight.

Be well, everyone. Thanks for listening.

My best,

That's great news, Kim. I'm sure you slept very well last night and will have a glorious day today!

Isn't it wonderful to be able to close both eyes when you go to bed at night?

I'm delighted to hear your good news, Kim. Have nice dreams of the adventures of Le Petit Prince.

Best wishes,

Well throw on some Rolling Stones, grab a bottle of Tequila and lets get this party started. :D

That's good news, Kim. You've got a good doctor there and someone with whom you can relax and trust with your heart care.

Just as long as you promise...

Oh Kim, you know how to make a grown woman cry. I'm so glad you finally got a report that lets the sun shine in.

Now the biggest question - Which Stones album????

If y'all could see me now, you'd see kisses being blown your way. And a big hug. Thank you.

Re the Stones, here's my playlist:

-- 19th Nervous Breakdown (how I've felt for the past few weeks)
-- Ain't Too Proud To Beg (how I felt when bugging my doctors for answers)
-- Beast of Burden (tamed, for now anyway)
-- Can't You Hear Me Knockin' (God, I know you're there)
-- Cool, Calmed & Collected (how I feel this AM)
-- Wild Horses (will have to drag me away from VR.com, even though technically I'm in the Waiting Room and probably will be the last one browsing the magazines in 2020)

Tequila? Nah. I'm going to buy some Dom and crab legs tonight! LOL!

wonderful news!

wonderful news!

Ah, the big question answered, at last!! Aren't you glad you persisted until you could find the right listener??!! I hope that you can give it all a break for awhile, just to see if the new knowledge can help relieve the symptoms. How many times, as mothers, have we explained an ache or woe to our kids only to have them dance happily away as if nothing, now, is wrong. Oh, for it to be so simple!! But maybe, maybe, you will experience some of that. The mind is a powerful thing.

Best wishes and hope you keep that rock n roll cranked high!!

Enjoy your family!! It all goes by so fast. On Saturday we fly with our oldest 3000 miles away to start a PhD program and begin life in an apartment. Our youngest starts college mid August, 1300 miles away. Thank goodness our middle is only a 3 hour train ride away. Sit and watch. Capture that laughter to forever ring in your ears. Touch their skin. Feel that warm. Embrace.

Great news! Don't be too much of a stranger. You're needed here, too!!

:D Marguerite
