Fla. Gunman Puts Car 'Out of Its Misery'Florida Man Shoots His Chrysler Five Times With Handgun to Put Troubled Car 'Out of Its Misery'
The Associated Press

LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA, Fla. Apr 20, 2005 ? A man with car trouble is in trouble after shooting five rounds into the hood of his Chrysler "to put my car out of its misery."

John McGivney, 64, shot his 1994 LeBaron with a .380-caliber semiautomatic, Broward County sheriff's deputies said.

When the property manager at his apartment complex asked what he was doing, McGivney said, "I'm putting my car out of its misery." He tucked his gun in a pocket and went back inside.

He was arrested Friday on a misdemeanor charge of discharging a firearm in public. He posted $100 bail Saturday.

McGivney said the car has been giving him trouble for years and had "outlived its usefulness." He called the shooting "dumb" and worries he will be evicted. But he doesn't regret it.

"I think every guy in the universe has wanted to do it," McGivney told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "It was worth every damn minute in that jail."

lol

lol

I have had vehicles that needed to be put out of their misery..lol have one in my yard now..its the worlds biggest doghouse..lol

I would like to put my neighbors 2 sons cars out of their and my miseries because of the loud boom boxes. We live in the country and you can hear them coming from a mile away and when they pull in their driveway my house shakes. They have 6 acres and we have 6 acres. I guess my age is showing but I just can't believe riding around in cars with music that loud can be good for their ears not to mention how do they hear ambulances, etc. that need to get around them.

A friend's son decides to drive his old truck home from Minnesota as a surprise to his parents and to get his old car to drive back to Minnesota. His truck gets eight miles to the gallon, so now when gas is high is a perfect time to do this. He breaks down in Benton Harbor, and his father has to drive down and help him nurse the truck home. (He broke down several times taking his old car back, and maybe isn't in Minnesota yet, but that's another story.)
He says his parents can sell his old truck, and my first suggestion to them was that they sell opportunities to shoot it. They could up it out in the field, supply the shotgun and shells, and probably make more off the truck than they would selling it.

Rather serious geezer factor with me, too, but I do remember as a teenager driving around with rock & roll on the AM radio turned up to full blast. So I'm not that surprised when I hear teenage stupidity coupled with modern technology in the form of a bass line heard from a mile away. What surprises me is so-called grown-ups who do it.

Back on-topic...
Actually, I've never been tempted to do this. I'm of the "drive 'em 'til they drop" school of thought (Are we neighbors, Pam?). Have never sold a car in my life. When I'm done with them I post a "Free to a good home" ad and the car is gone by the end of the week.

It's hilarious

It's hilarious

What a creative solution. I'm still laughing.

It probably means cruising slowly past the wrecking yard didn't put some sense into it (the car).

He's probably not the first to think that way.

Cheers
