Dang, I keep waking up early and being unable to go to sleep. My parents took the kids last night, we had a great night out, went to sleep too late, but then I've been up since before 7 because I just cannot get myself back to sleep these days. I imagine sleep before surgery is one of the tougher things right?

That's what drugs like xanax are for! Just kidding (kinda). Get used to sleep disturbances, they seem to follow you for a while afterwards as well.

Glad you had a great night out. Best of luck to you. We will be here waiting to hear from you once again.

I wasn't even the one having surgery and didn't sleep well for weeks. I finally called my Dr. and got a little help. Anxiety before something like this is monumental.

Most of us have sleep disturbances both before and after surgery.
After my first surgery, groan....... I didn't get a decent night sleep for the longest time.
Was better the second time around (four years later.)

you are right on track with everyone else, you know. that's what we are here to tell you as you move along. not to worry, tho, there will come a time when you will again sleep well. Take advantage of your time in the hospital so you will be rested (did I say that?) before you get home to the family. You have someone at home to help you out?

I got zero the night before as when the Anesthesiologist called that night he said he was not in my insurance plan but he would figure it out, ...............That left me thinking about how to pay that bill all night. Turns out he just accepted what my insurance paid and I worried for nothing as here I am 2 1/2 yrs later feeling GREAT.

Had I not had serious issues with xanax I would have asked for some.

I usually go to sleep late & wake up early before a procedure, or surgery. When they give me the meds to knock me out I figure they work better.

05:30 Every Morning

05:30 Every Morning

By now, I guess that I should not be surprised when the rest of you demonstrate once again that I have not personally reinvented human behavior. Since I've had the name of the surgeon, I've been waking at 05:30 and it doesn't seem to matter when I go to bed. I have been playing out around 07:00 in the evening but it usually takes awhile before I actually get to sleep. My GP offered pills but the only time I ever took them they made me feel weird all day so I think I'll just put up with it for now. The tonks, at least, like the extra ear scratching while I'm lying there.

Yes. Very tough to sleep. Your mind keeps going a mile a minute while Ginger Baker and Gene Krupa are spelling each other in that place in your chest where a perfectly good heart used to be.

It makes for long nights. And everyone else wants to sleep. And a million channels wouldn't be enough to find something to distract you on TV.

I've come to the conclusion there's nothing for it, so I just go with the flow and try to feel whatever it's trying to make me feel.

I miss my little dog.

Be well,

As everyone else has said, perfectly normal -- try not to worry about it, because that will just make things worse. Maybe some soothing bedside music would help. We've had a lot of discussion here also about post-surgery sleep problems. Could do a search and a lot of ideas will come up. Main thing to remember, all will return to a better pattern in time.

a little help

a little help

This may not be a popular suggestion but go to your doc, he may give you something to help you sleep. No big deal one good nights sleep may get you over the hump and get you feeling more comfortable.
