There's been much discussion of the problem many of us have sleeping, post-surgery, with the problem lasting for months for some. Thought I'd pass along one thing I've recently found helpful. Because of upper respiratory congestion that left me (temporarily I hope) with some ear noise, I bought a small $20 radio that plays a variety of Nature sounds -- ocean, wind, rain, etc. I've put that bedside to cover the ear noise, but now find it helps me sleep generally. I associate sleep with the comforting sound of the ocean tide rolling in.

It's not helping tonight because I have stomach upset -- but oh well, nothing is 100 percent.

Sleep Thoughts

Sleep Thoughts

Hi.
I found that Benadryl helps me to sleep straight through the night. I'm nearing 4 weeks post surgery and it took me one week post surgery to be able to sleep halfway decent.

Joe has a sound machine also, and he's partial to the ocean waves as well. He has two mechanicals, one very old clunky one and a newer St. Jude.

May I ask what is the brand and name of the $20 radio you purchased? Our humidifier gives a background hum during the winter, but now that the weather's getting humid, we need something else. That sounds perfect and inexpensive also. Thanks! Wise

"Sound Spa"

"Sound Spa"

Hi Wise,

I stumbled on this at my local CVS (I was about to buy a humidifier, too, mainly for the humming soiund when I saw the radio.)

It's from a company called HoMedics. The radio is called Envirascape Sound Spa Clock Radio. In addition to radio and alarm clock, it has six "calming sounds" -- brook, wind, ocean, falls, nights, and rain.

Customer service e-mail for HoMedics is [email protected]

And no I'm not a salesman for them. :D

Cheers,

Bob

Bob, thanks so much. I'm going to try to find one locally. I've seen a lot of HoMedics products here in Frankfort...going to Walmart in a few minutes...if they don't have it, well we have a CVS also. Thanks again.

Ive a computer in my room, I put a screensaver that is falling rain with sound on it is very relaxing...

Hi Yaps,

I've got the same thing on my computer and tried it but the light from the computer was distracting in the dark bedroom.

Wise: Don't hold me to that $20 price on that radio. It was $20-something, plus I think the store had marked it down. It might be slightly more where you find it. If I WERE the salesman for the "Sound Spa," you could accuse me of bait and switch about now. :D

That's okay. I haven't found it yet, atleast not at Walmart. Will look at CVS when I get a chance. That's or something like it would work for us. Would try the screensaver, but I can't sleep with the light in the room either.
