My SO's brother is a Skydiving instructor and his stories have always made me a little jealous. He is fully trained in tandem jumping (meaning he jumps with a novice strapped to him) and has been for awhile. He is in town this weekend and I have been hearing his stories again and visited the jump site and everyone looks so happy and excited.

I really want to jump with him but am worried about a couple of things. One is my constant a-fib and the other is what a hard landing (assuming there is one) would do to someone on coumadin. I am not yet ready this weekend (still a little chicken to jump out of a perfectly stable plane) ;) :D but he will be back later this summer.

Anyone out there gone skydiving while on coumadin and/or with a-fib? I know I could ask my cardio but, if he had his way, I would walk and that's about it.

I'm not on coumadin and I don't have a-fib, so I will only offer my suggestion that you ask your SO's brother his thoughts. There's always a risk of liability if you're injured, but he may carry his own insurance. Tandem diving is considered safer than freefall, and I think you would enjoy it.

He is insured and has been encouraging me to jump with him. He is certainly not pushing it but understands my interest (and trepidation). :D I have a lot of dreams about flying and am addicted to the ride "Soaring over California" at Disney, so flying is a big thing to me. The idea of being able to fly, even for a couple of minutes, just sounds great.

Then jump!:p
If you're really apprehensive, contact your cardiologist and see what he says.

Before OHS I always wanted to skydive....now I don't trust my heart.

But at least I've been in all sizes of planes, a friend in Boston co-owned a Cessna and took me for some fun rides. I've done the helicopter thing too.
For Christmas one year my Dad gave my daughter a trip in an ultra light plane; she was so thrilled!

Gina, if you get cleared by your cardio, go for it! And make sure we all get to see the pics.

Hi Gina, i'm pre surgery and not on any medications, but i have done 4 tandem jumps, the first one at age 42, and can tell you the landing is fine. I did get bruising under my arms from when the parachute opened so that might be an issue. I'd certainly ask your cardio and if he gives the go ahead then enjoy, its great fun and an experience not to be missed ...mary
