HI to coaguchek users

Amelia uses a caoguchek softclix lancet. We had 2 packs of 24 white coloured lancets that came with the machine. Now she is out, I went out to buy the ones for Accu-chek. But there's not enought blood!!! I have maxed out to level 5 for dept of the puncture. I have this nagging suspicion that the diameter is for coaguchek is a little bigger cos Accu-chek needs like 1.5uL of blood but Coaguchek needs 10 uL.

Can anyone tell me if your lancet for coaguchek is different from the Accu-chek's (which is stated to be 0.4mm) ? What does your package says?

Thanks!

I'm not sure, but it sounds like you got something around 30ga and I think your looking for 21ga. If you have any extras or used around that you can take to the pharmacy with you, that would be a big help. They have all sorts and I'm sure they'd have a generic to replace it.

Hi Ross

Thanks for the reply. I am not sure about the way lancet size is marked but my box says :
28G / 0.4mm.So yeah, looks like I may need something like 21ga (if the smaller number ga means a larger diameter of the needle).

My husband just don't understand that I need to prick and get that FIRST drop of blood WITHIN 15 sec to be applied to the strip....... so stressful when u have a wriggling toddler patient.

Yellow Lancets

Yellow Lancets

The lancet I use come cased in yellow plastic and they usually work for me when the Softclix is dialed as high as it will go. The diameter was covered with the bar code label and when I tried to pull it off totally obliterated the needle gauge.

I've also had success with Accu-Chek Safe T Pro Plus lancets. They are single use only, usually used for glucose, are shaped like a thick letter T and are programmable from a depth of 1.3mm to 1.8mm and 2.3mm. with a needle diameter of 23 g. These slice not puncture the skin.

Cheers

Hi Lance

Yes, the rep from Roche will be giving me some sample of the Safe T Pro but since it is a slice I am having doubts  Amelia is only 15 months old , her fingers are still so tiny weeny...

I just hope they will have the 21G or 23G for me. I just saw some on the web on sale. Thanks for the info. I think i'll try on myself first before poking her on the safe-t pro.

21 or 23ga is pretty big. It should produce a nice big blob of blood. I use 30ga and it's tinnie tiny, but good enough for my hemosense strips.

Gosh Ross,

No one can accuse you of being thick skinned now can they.

30g--don't I wish.

I can't remember now, but mine came with 21 or 23ga and not only did it hurt more, but I was getting way more then enough of a sample. I thought it to be overkill for all I need on a hemosense strip. Might be fine for a Protime cup where I need drops of blood or larger samples, but well, you know what I mean.

Found this chart if it's useful to anyone

Excellent reference chart

Excellent reference chart

Walgreen's Pharmacy not in Canada.

Only one reference to 21 ga lancet. Most diabetics use the fine gauges.

This should end once and for all the myth about warfarin thinning the blood otherwise the results of our sticks should be running across the table.

Thanks so much guys

hi Ross and Lance

thanks so much for the information and the tips. I'll try on Amelia and pray that her 28G will be able to get a good blob.

cheers
