My youngest sister had outpatient varicose vein surgery Monday and by Tuesday afternoon was DXed with a blood clot in her leg. Wednesday she was put on warfarin (7.5mg for now) & Arixtra, a non-heparin injectible Rx. She's on warfarin for 3-6 months, the injections (once a day) for probably 9-10 days.

John & I had planned to spend the weekend with her & my brother-in-law at their lake house, so she asked me to bring my INRatio with me. She needed an INR test by noon today, or else would have to go to the local hospital (she said NOT!) or drive two hours to Dallas for a test.

Her INR was 1.7 on my INRatio. Her cardiovascular surgeon said that was fine. She has to go into Dallas on Monday for a recheck on her leg and he'll do another INR then.

We joked about "bleeding to death," and Nancy said she'll just watch when she uses the chainsaw around their lake lot. :D

Just wanted to wish your sister well Marsha! I hope that she doesn't have to stay on coumadin too long & enjoy your stay at the lake house.....and yes, be careful with the chainsaw!

Marsha, hope your sister gets along ok.

My wife had blood clots in her pelvic area in 1976. She was put on warfarin for the next 9 months. We were talking about that the other day. Never knew what her PT was. The doctors back then didn't tell a person much of anything. And we didn't know enough to question hospital procedures.

Enjoy the weekend on the lake. We been spending our weekends on the lake for the last 15 years. ;)
