Has anyone noted an interaction between Simvastatin(Zocor) and warfarin? I was put on 20mg Simvastatin about 15 months ago. During that time I also took 5mg warfarin and my INR remained pretty stable (2.5-3.5) and required virtualy no dosage adjustments. About 2 months ago my Simvastatin was increased to 40mg and my INR has increased to 4+, requiring reductions in warfarin dosage and causing the dreaded "yo-yoing" effect. I "googled" and found quite a few articles on possible interaction between warfarin/simvastatin, even one posted by Al Lodwick. I am going to meet with my PCP to discuss discontinuing the Simvastatin (never have been comfortable on statins anyway) but wonder if anyone here has any experience with a warfarin/simvastatin combination?:confused:

Smooth sailing for us on statins and Coumadin

Smooth sailing for us on statins and Coumadin

Dick:

I have been taking Coumadin (6-6-1/2) and Zocor(20mgs) for more than 3 years, with no troubles and no problems. In all this time, my INR has been relatively stable...except for those times that I forgot to eat my greens and salads.

Please note, my husband had his valve replaced in 1990 and is taking Coumadin and Lipitor. He has had no problems either...except for not enough greens. I have not had a valve replaced. I take Coumadin because of a-fib.

Kind regards,
Blanche

I have been taking Warfarin and Zocor for 2 1/2 years. Since I started taking both right after AVR I didn't notice any effect. A couple months ago my PCP raised my dose of Zocor from 20mg to 40mg and I have noticed that my INR have been getting higher, I know what you mean about the yo-yo effect, I really didn't know what was making my INR climb, but now I really think it is the Zocor.
