Very nice of you!
Very nice of you!
Hi there SheylaThomas, and thanks for offering to help. I'm sure that lots of people will come forward and ask you for advice on types of valves and all that stuff. I'm a 39 year old Brazilian who has already been through 3 mitral valve replacements as a result of rheumatic fever and I'll be facing my fourth within a couple of years. The last valve I got put in was a Pericardium bovine bioprosthetic cardioprothesis valve, and I've already made up my mind that although I'm well aware of the risks of reoperations, I won't go for the mech. I'm in the hands of a very good Brazilian surgeon called Dr. Francisco Diniz Afonso da Costa who's also a scientist on the research of new techniques regarding valve surgery. My first 2 surgeries were performed by one of the most respected heart surgeons of his time in the world, DR. Zerbini in the city of São Paulo here in Brazil. The type of valve I had put in then was duramater and I was the first child in the country to survive my kind of surgery despite all the setbacks. If you want to know more details about me, you can take a look at the heart stories section and it's all there. I'd be interested in hearing any comments you might have based on your experience. Thanks for reading.
