Well I'm going in again. May 9th One final deal to close, middle son home from school, sooo here goes. Dr Werner is going to repair the mitral posterior leaflet and replace the orignal ring with a larger one. If he feels like that is not the coarse he will replace. with what? I haven't decided that one yet but the engineer in me says no mechanical?

My hat is off to all of you who have done this more than once. Ignorance is bliss the first time but not the second.

I'll keep in touch as the date grows nearer. Too busy to notice the days flying by. I feel like I have a ton to get done before I go in because I knoe how I will feel after.

So sorry you have to do this again, Paul and we hope that they will be able to do the repair. I will put you on the calendar if you are not already there and we wish you the best for a speedy and uneventful recovery.

aww Paul...I will be back in action by the 7th May...I shall be keeping an eye out for a great-permanent-fix for you...
God Bless

It's funny you say the engineer in you says no mechanical! That's the same reason I said "yes" to mechanical! Either way, wishing you the best and I know you're in good hands. They really know how to get the job done at St. Lukes.

My feeling is second (and third or more) surgeries are easier because you know what to expect AND they are harder because you know what to expect.;) ;)
I wish you well and, if a replacement is necessary, just remind the engineer in you that if you go tissue, you will be doing this again in the future. If you are comfortable with that then you will have your decision. If not, you will have your decision. Not easy sometimes but be happy with whatever choice you make.
Take care and let us know how we can help get you through.

What size is your current valve?

What size is your current valve?

I too had robotic surgery and am 5'l" and (I won't say how much I weigh, as it's more now than when I had surgery) have a 31mm Edwards Annuloplasty ring. I don't know how the surgeon choose ring size, as mine seems to be larger than most I have read about on this forum. My valve has a minimal leak, but fortunately the cardiologist cannot hear a murmur with the stethoscope. The leak can be seen on the ECHO. Are you on meds? I take 2.5mg of Lisinopril and 10 mg of lipitor. Good luck to you with new surgery, and I hope it can be repaired. I feel very fortunate to have successful surgery and to feel as well as I do. I hope you will feel better soon. I will be praying for a successful outcome and speedy recovery for you Paul. Cindy

Paul,

It must feel sorta better, all things considered, to have it scheduled. In looking back at my notes, I found Dr. Werners name recommended by a few folks, so you are in good hands. What surgery method will he use? The engineer in me would say mechanical, but I suppose thats because I'm an electrical engineer.
