hi everyone! i'm back.......i had posted that i was having problems-no appetite, nausea, mega shortness of breath. saw my surgeon's nurse practioner on the 16 and was told"it's anxiety" :eek:i KNEW something was wrong! when ya walk DOWN 6 stairs and have to catch your breath.....so wednesday the 18,i was to see my PCP. i felt so bad,i wanted to cancel! imagine-too sick to see a doc!i had hubby take me. i was so weak, dizzy, short of breath,i couldn't shower. used some hospital wipes. my PCP is THE best and she knew it was NOT "anxiety" went for stat echo-fluid around my heart!!!!!!!!! the 19th,they did a pericardial window and removed over 600 cc!!!!!oh-and my inr in the er was 30 ! i am lucky to be alive! they gave me ffp-fresh frozen plasma-has the clotting stuff in it. and vitamin k. kidneys weren't doing so hot either. but all is well now. supposedly-i am BEAT !!!!!!! i feel more sore all over and wore out after the 2nd surgery. it was minor -compared to the 1st surgery!!!!so-they kept me there over a week,on heparin.went from one extreme to another. i also think the surgeon kept me there to be safe cuz HIS nurse blew me off........trish

You need to have a heart to heart discussion with your other doctor re: the NP that gave you that horrible diagnosis!!!!! That is ridiculous! She needs to take a walk down the road! You could have been in even more serious trouble than you were.

I hate to read things like this! It just shows you how lazy some people can be.

I am just amazed that doctors are still using the "anxiety" crap for people who know their bodies. We have all been through so much that we KNOW when something is wrong. In addition, we would not pursue having something done if not necessary because we have been through so much. Unbelievable.

I am so happy you did not buy that NP "diagnosis" and are doing better. You have a perfect right to be exhausted and please take some time to let your body heal from this latest assault.

Like Nancy said - talk to your surgeon about his NP. She needs to be jumped on and sent back to school.

Happy to hear you are doing better and so sorry you experienced what you did.

About the NP........grrrrr!!!!

So sorry you had this happen, but glad your pcp caught it and wishing you the best for a completer recovery.

Sorry to hear about the setback but glad they found the problem and you got drained. I had fluid, too, and I know I felt a whole lot better afterwards and my recovery accelerated from there. Best wishes continue...

There is no excuse for any of it especially an INR of 30. Who's managing you? I suggest you come to the anticoagulation forum so we can help you with this stuff when you recover some.

* I am sorry to hear what you've had to deal with and VERY happy that you are now on the mend and hopefully the worst is now behind you.

Grrrrr...those people....how dare they trivialise your symptoms.

An INR of 30 eeeek. You are one lucky lady. Best wishes for continued recovery.

So sorry to hear you had to go through all that!! Glad you are feeling better now but what a way to have to go to feel better after surgery. Well keep us posted and I'm with the others you need to tell the dr what happened if that nurse is doing this to other people it might not be such a good outcome for the next person. :(

OMG Trish,glad your alright
What is wrong with these so-called EXPERTS???????

just goes to show how important it is to be a squeaky wheel when you know something isn't right. You hear about people who just accept what the doc says and accept whatever circumstances arise. I had a similar situation with Pericardial Effussion, the ER doc said it was simply gas. Sorry but I've never had stabbing pain in my shoulder due to gas ! The next day I went to my cardio and got a proper diagnosis. No draining procedure was necessary but the lesson for all the newbies is to be persistent when you think something is seriously wrong. Glad to hear your doing better now Trish

I am glad you are ok! I hope the doctor knows his NP is an idiot! So glad you were persistant w/your care. Sure hope for no more set backs for you.

Deb

Did i forget to mention (why is it that doctors call what they do a (PRACTICE)???????

I'm happy to hear you're back on track. Congratulations on pursuing a correct diagnosis. Doctors and NP's need to listen to their patients more. When their diagnoses become mechanical. patients are the ones who pay.

at the clinic we go to,there is an"anticoagulation clinic".they do the finger stick and give you the next few days doses.BUT-since i can't drive postop and hubby works during their hours-they had me going to the lab cuz 2 days a week, they're open til 7:30 pm.BUT the lab "mishandleded" or "lost my blood" so basically-i was NOT being monitored. now hubby leaves work early to take me! then, once i can drive again-i'll take me whenever! trish

Well the offer still stands and always will for you or anyone else having troubles managing their INR. As you know, you can't just forget about it. It's very important. I still don't know how yours could have shot up so high so fast, which leads me to beleive your being mismanaged to start with. The sad truth is that most people are.

my kidneys were messed up,too.kidney doc thinks it was cuz my heart was trying to pump thru over 600 cc of fluid.messed up kidneys probably weren't dealing w/the coumadin-so it probably built up.....but i will keep your offer in mind-thanks,ross! trish
