Anne K Sippit

I have read several postings on the change in date.... right up to the day of having it done.

I appreciate the tolerance others have shown, but this is making me a wreck...

I was on the calander for June 18 - Angio and June 19 - MVR.

Over the weekend I get a schedule for bloodwork to be done on the 18th and a stress test for the 19th. Enclosed was a nice pamphlet on preventing a heart attack. What?

Spent the entire long week end fretting.

So now the 18th - blood work up and physical
19th - stress test with some sort of dye involved
20th - the angio
and the 23rd of June the MVR.

I was told this may change.... I can understand and live with that. It is just that my support team is going nuts.

one question... after the angio how good will I feel - I look at it as two days off before going in - will I be perky, down or bed ridden after that first hurdle?

Thanks

I felt no ill effects at all from the angio. I was fine immediately after and remained that way. You will be instructed as to eating/drivingt etc but you should expect to feel fine.

There are always a few exceptions to every rule.

I would have freaked if my surgery had been delayed. As it turns out, I got lucky by a day. The day after I had my surgery, other OHS at Mass General were cancelled. When I heard that, all I could think was 'lucky by a day'. I knew in advance it can and does happen but selfishly, so hoped it would not happen to me.

Wishing you good luck and remembering how hard the waiting time is. We understand probably like few others. Most of us have been there and certainly can relate. Once the appointments and testing begin, you will find yourself busy and caught up in the moment. The time will go quickly for you to get the surgery done and get on with your recovery.

You'll do fine!

Anne, I put you on the calendar for June 23rd and will pm Mary to take the other date off. I'm sorry about the delay and hope the time will go quickly for you.

Angio

Angio

I had my angio several weeks before my surgery. My surgeon's calendar was pretty full. There are always variations among idividuals with regards to procedures like angio stuff. My leg was sore for several days after my angio procedure, but I drove myself home from the hospital after my angio.

I wish they could develop a less invasive method for getting the information an angio procedure is designed to provide.

I didn't have to do a stress test. The information provided by my angio and the CT scan that followed indicated my valve was due for replacement and my aorta was in bad shape.

After my angio I was feeling fine except I had a big bruise and hematoma where they had to apply pressure to the stop the bleeding. I was limping but could get around. I had it done on a Tuesday and took Wed - Fri off, mostly to stay off the leg. Otherwise I was pretty comfortable.

This is a great place!

This is a great place!

Thanks for the info and feedback. When I got to thinking back on the events so far it seems not som much as my date changed, in that it was actually finally set. When I go the 17th and 18 originally I think I jumped to an early conclusion. Now that the sequence of events are in a logical manner it makes sense to me.

Last week I don't think I slept soundly more than a couple hours. This week I'm getting the full 8 as big burden has been lifted.

I, too, felt fine after the angio. I also had a large bruise, but it went away quick. Good luck to you...i understand how hard it is to keep being put off...i think that's the norm with heart surgeons. I've had more appointments cancelled because he's been called into surgery. I hope that everything will start happening according to schedule for you in the future and that the surgery will be successful. ~hugs~ Dawn-Marie

Getting jerked around for any anything for any reason gets my goat (sorry Bina:p)?but heart surgery:mad:?.It did not happen to me but I?m sure I would have given somebody and ear full?.like you said it?s not just you?it?s family, friends, care givers??.unacceptable:mad:...Try and relax, I know it is hard but try:)

We was ready for surgery in november when they took us in for a pre-op check.Took all his bloods which he hates. My son even said the hospital are a bit annoying. I have been a total wreck at times, we had two cancelled dates before his first surgey and are still getting messed around now. I don't know how many times now i have told my family he his ready for surgery, it can be very stressfull. Sending hugs and wishing you all the best.
