I am 10 weeks post op and started using mederma scar cream. has anyone used it before. I seem to notice some itching after applying it but no redness. Is it too soon to use it and is the itching normal

I used it for a bit, I have a small keloid at the bottom of my incision. Mederma did not do much for mine. I still get occasional itching. Contemplating see a dermatologist. Haley went to one and had laser treatments that she felt made a big difference. If you have any type of surgery on the keloid, from what I have read, it comes back, it's our bodies not knowing how to stop healing in that spot.

I just used vitamin E oil and that even tool care of some of the itching you have later.. I did'nt use it right away not till around 6 to 8 weeks after OHS...You can hardly see my scar and its been about two years next month...:)

I've been using Mederma for a couple of weeks now. No major changes, but I have noticed it lightening up a little. I'll continue to use to see if it gets lighter. I've heard good things about it.

I have been using the store brand of merdema and I think it's working great and it's alot cheaper too. Debbie

When can you start using these creams. I know my surgeon had said just soap and water. I didn't ask for how long. I am now 6 weeks out.

Thanks

when your incision is healed

when your incision is healed

I honestly didnt do anything with the scar 10 years ago, since I was just convinced I would be forever covering up, but since then i have had other surgeries and have been told by a plastic surgeon to use EMU oil on the incision- I found it online. Again, havent been a faithful user of it, so I couldnt tell ya how well it works. I think the key to putting on any scar cream/oil is that the scar is getting massaged and the scar tissue gets broken up. I was also told not to put anything on the incision until fully healed, which im sure would be the case by 6 weeks. Good luck!

How smelly is Mederma? They told me that they don't make a fragrance-free version, because the product naturally has a strong onion smell, and I guess they feel that no one would use it without whatever perfumes they are adding. But what did they do to it? Does it smell like ten thousand flowers or something?

mederma scent

To me, it has a light floral scent that I don't notice after it dries. Since you're in AZ, you might want to look for the SPF version, which may have a different scent. I only found out about it after paying nearly $30 for a 50g tube of regular--rats. I haven't used it long enough to detect any effects, but it is not helping the tenderness, which is the main thing that bothers me about my scar.
