Wednesday will be two weeks home from the hospital and I am feeling great. I was in the hospital for 6 long days. The first few where very tough but by day 6 I was ready to get out. I had enough shots and blood drawn. The first two days at home where uncomfortable but now about 2 weeks later I am feeling 100 % better. My chest is still very soar and there are a couple spots not healing great on the incision but that?s minor. I am only taking pain pills at night to help with sleeping. I can even lie on my side for a couple minutes. I was happy to see that I did not have any staples or stitches, they actually glued me back together and I think that healed much quicker than the staples from my previous surgery.

On Wednesday I go for my final checkup with the surgeon and should get my driving privileges back. The worst part of this now is not working and staying at home. I am suffering from sever boredom. But I also understand I need to take it easy. The doctor said that my chest needs a full 8 weeks to heal. If I take it easy and don?t use my arms for lift anything I should not have any problems with my chest bone for the rest of my life. But if I push it I will be fighting problems with it for the rest of my life. That was the best advice I got so far.

The doctor said the valve was in very bad shape and needed to be replaced. I guess that?s better than him coming out and saying it?s not that bad. I am glad it?s over and am looking forward to things getting back to normal.

still be careful and rest.Yes being home comes boredom
been there,done that and doing it again...Not working
is driving me in sane and they say cannot go back till
after the heal of my surgery haven't had it yet!!!!

Glad you are home and out of the hospital, and hey woke up from surgery! That is what I thought when I woke up! Hey I made it! I use to call them vampires when they would come draw blood all night. Can't get any rest in that high dollar hotel LOL! Your doctor is right do not pick up anything! and rest and soon as he will let you go to rehab and that will help you so much. Sleeping in a recliner is good for the first few nights if you have one. Take care! Good luck!!

okay so the person who told you about no lifting until chest bone was healed (8 weeks?) was SO right. I got the no more than 10 pounds for at least 12 weeks, but last week I felt so good. I am 5 weeks post op tomorrow and My right side of chest across to my arm are SOOOO sore. Last week I felt great..folded some laundry cooked a double batch of choc chip cookies (comfort food) helped make dinner..so on..and I am paying now. Could I have done permanent damage? I see Dr tomorrow (good thing I quess).

Glad you are home and doing good. I told you that you were in good hands!!. I was just cleared to drive last week, so I understand the boredom. How about cadrio rehab?? Have they said anything about that? I think that has helped me a whole lot to bounce back. Keeep me updated, I may see you there

I just now remembered...the first thing I did after waking up
was wiggle my fingers and toes. "No stroke...I'm alive and OK!"

It's great to be on this side isn't it.

Now, sit back and relax. If you push it to fast you will regret it.

One more thing. As you improve, you might (like me) forget to be
careful.

It's all too easy to over do. One day you'll feel like dynamite, do too much and then pay and pay dearly for it. Just take it slow and easy. Baby steps.

Yeah, I'll echo the 'don't do too much.' I don't recall how many weeks I was post-op (it was sometime before my three month post-op checkup) when I was sawing a branch off some trees, pruning with a saw, and I felt something pop down in my rib area and struggled with costochondritis after that. Not pleasant! I still feel a twang of it sometimes. My surgeon's recommendations were to not lift or push or pull more than five pounds for eight weeks and I obeyed him. He also wouldn't let me drive for eight weeks.
