I read an article the other day that mentioned you can save money by getting larger mg pills and splitting them in half. I tried this with my Coreg prescription, and I saved 1/2 of the monthly cost (from ~$70 to ~$35). I currently take 3.125 mg twice a day. My cardio wrote me a new prescription for 6.25 mg. The cost for a 6.25 mg is THE SAME as a 3.125 mg!!!!!! So by getting a larger pill, I basically get it 1/2 price. I'm not sure if it works that way at every pharmacy, but it's definitely worth a try.

God Bless.

did you discuss this w/your dr? I have heard tell that even at half a pill you are still getting the larger mg dosage - just half of it at the time. A technical matter but I have seen a discussion before - others have an opinion on this?

Our doctor suggested that we split some of our medications as a cost effective measure. He suggested that we use a pill box and take the split drugs on consecutive days. Albert takes the same dose of Coumadin every day, rather than taking 5mg some days and 7.5mg other days. His body seems to like the dose of 6.25, which he could not get without splitting pills. He also splits Lipitor. I split Zocor. I think that splitting drugs that have a short half-life might be problematic. There are other ones that have protective coatings or are time-release that might not do well with splitting. I did find some info a while back, but I don't remember a discussion here. Probably missed it.
