I've noticed the seemingly increasing amount of prayers being requested for young kids and thought I'd share a little something about what I received in the mail recently. [Ross, if you or Hank deem this is something that should not be posted in here due to the "money request" nature, that is fine ... and I apologize in advance.]

Saving Little Hearts (www.savinglittlehearts.org) is a non-profit organization aimed at supporting families affected by heart defects, which includes, among others, a "Parent Match" program (that matches people through a network for support, etc.) and a "Surgery Care Package" program which sends packages to families during surgery times. The packages include long distance phone cards, disposable cameras, coloring books/toys, heart defect literature, pens/journals, toiletries, etc.

If you're interested in donating money to help finance the care packages ... so more can be sent to meet the increasing need ... check out the website or let me know. I know most of us (including myself) are "strapped for money" ... but, sometimes, giving can be very rewarding ... many times over.

that's a great idea Cort.. i'll take a look at the website when I get home.. I like the idea of the support part as well as the info packs.. I've always wanted and still do, just having problems getting it up and running - be a support person for women and/or young people in general who are going thru heart surgery.. be a connection at the hospital with someone (me) who's already been thru it.. while I still had my family during my crisis.. I was also the only young person, let alone female in both the cardiac ward and rehab.. no one understood how I felt both physically and emotionally.. that is until I found this web site afterwards.

I think that kind of support for children and their parents is especially needed. Thanks for the info.

We received a care package!

We received a care package!

For Calebs surgery we received a care package from saving little hearts! It was wonderful. There was a toy, color book and crayons, snacks, tooth brush and paste, calling card, camera, note book, crossword puzzle, stress ball, just to mention a few plus it comes in a canvas bag with the "saving little hearts" logo. It was very handy to have!

A great cause to donate to!

Jamie,

So good to hear that these are helpful/welcomed by the patients and families! Thanks for sharing!

Chris,

I agree. I always try to give back as much as I possibly can ... sadly, this year will not be as well as last year :(.
