Am flying in to Salt Lake City 6/10, then driving about 300 miles to Mountain Home ID on 6/11 to attend a celebration of life for a dear friend on the 12th.
Boise isn't a direct flight and I'd need a rental car anyway, so I'm using frequent flyer miles to get to SLC.

Any valvers know any great sights along the interstate between Salt Lake City and Boise area? I've been to Salt Lake City many times for cat shows; had time once to visit Antelope Island State Park in Salt Lake.

I'm looking forward to perhaps finding a few western collectibles along the interstate.

Marsha,

I can't help you, but I flew into Boise and worked at a client hospital in Mountain Home the summer before last. Beautiful area and I stayed at the Best Western in Mountain Home that was very nice.

Have fun and take your camera.

Bryan:

In March 2001, my late friend and I went to a cat show in Nampa and stayed at her brother's ranch, where the celebration of life will take place. Had a great time. We ate one night at a Basque restaurant; I've been told the restaurant is no longer in business. :( Only other thing I remember about Mountain Home was a Walmart we went to that Friday afternoon.

My sister collects western stuff, and I'm hoping I can find a few things along the way to Mountain Home. I did a cat show in Missoula Montana in August 1999 at the state university there; naturally, there was a great western memorabilia show-sale there, but my sister wasn't into collecting that stuff back then.

My friend had told me about the celebration of life they held for her mother about 10 years ago. It was a barbecue on the old family ranch in Ventura County CA. She thought it was lots of fun, not morbid and sad. I'm certain the June 12 service will be similar.

Now I need to research the internet for antiques places along I-15 and 84.

The Wal-Mart is a couple of blocks from the Best Western. We were there during the summer and we drove up the "mountain" to see the grasshoppers. I don't know if it's a yearly happening, but the roads were covered in them.

Lived in Boise for about 5 years (about 30 years ago, though). Have since traveled between SLC and Mt. Home a few time on the way to/from Phoenix/Portland. Several stretches of the highway are noted for high winds, and the scenery is generally high desert.

Not much along that stretch, save for Twin Falls, if you make the effort to see the actual falls. They're a bit north of town, but south of the interstate. Not of Niagara scale, but I recall they were kind of pretty. Also, you'll wind along the Snake river for a bit, and there are a few scenic lookouts that are worth stopping for. You can see the spot where Evel Knievel tried to jump the canyon many years back, too.
