TIM W.

For you guys that have followed my story from the beginning, you may recall me saying that while I'm off work due to my surgery, my plant would be closing down. Well, today was the last day. I just got back from a "last day party". Nobody was expected to work today, just mostly a social gathering. Very, very sad and emotional for a lot of us. 250 employees left today with no jobs to go to tomorrow. Over 2,200 years of combined service!
I know you guys can't change anything, just thought I'd let you know what was "tugging at my heart" today. Thanks for listening.:(

Hey Tim more people have been in that very same boat then care to mention it. I'm very sorry to hear that it's happened to you and your friends, family, etc. It's happening all around where I live too.
This city of mine has lost all it's steel mills and other good paying jobs. It's a virtual ghost town here now.

I guess we'll have to look at it as a closed book in our lives and try to find another and begin a new chapter and new story. It's hard, I know that and it's getting harder everyday. If you ever want to talk about it, just send me a PM.

hey Tim

sorry for your bad news.
I retired from work three years ago and the place closed a year later. Three thousand + people worked there. I worked there for 25 Yrs.

I got to know a lot of people thru those years. Many of those people had long service, homes they were paying for, kids in school, their life pretty much mapped out and then.........
I cringe when I think of the many, not old enough for s.s., and pension money too small and deminished 401k's. Now they have to seek employment for the first time in years, compete with younger, newly schooled in an area flooding with job-seekers.
Advice I remember from a tea-bag " There is no security in life, only oportunity". Try to accept whatever comes your way.:)

THIS TOO< SHALL PASS

My son-in-law flew in/out of country on his job - on 9/12 he and all other employees were grounded forever. He managed to work from time to time with the foreign half of the company, but only under temporary contract and that ended about 3 wks ago. He just has started permanent employment last week. It was h*** for them with the uncertainty of day to day living. They got by but were afraid to spend anything extra during these last 2 yrs. I wish you well in seeking a new job. But the sadness of your company's closing. So many of your co-workers with no place to go tomorrow is a real bummer. Good thoughts and wishes are sent along.

The same thing happened to me right after my surgery. In fact, my boss called me while I was still in the hospital to tell me that the company was shutting down.

At the time I just felt lucky to be alive, so losing my job really didn't seem that important in the grand scheme of things.

I spent a few months on unemployment while I was healing.

I now have a new job that I love and am thankful for every day.

God does work in mysterious ways sometimes...

Tim,
I have been through several "right-sizings," "down-sizings," "changes in business direction," and plain old companies being bought and sold. I have been a "professional consultant" in between some of them, which is another way of saying that you're looking for work while you work as a contractor. Believe me when I say that somehow it always works out for the best. As with our other problems, your ability to manage your personal attitude will have a profound effect on the speed at which this all resolves itself. When you can look yourself in the mirror and proclaim that you feel good about yourself, it will shine through in all your actions -- that goes for job hunting as well as healing. In my own experience, I think attitude is the single most important aspect of dealing with job loss. Feel free to lean on us here, either in open forum or via PM -- that's what Support is all about.

Hi Tim,

I sure can relate to your post. I am going through the same thing right now. The corporation I was employed with for over 22 years sold our division. The new owners ar closing 2 of our manufacturing plants amd the division office I work in. It is so sad seeing the people gradually given their notices of leave.

They say that these days not many people work for a company for more than 5 years. These days people have to be watching out for themselves and selling themselves because companies no longer really look at employees as long term commentments.

I had to be interviewed for the job I have been doing for many years by the new owners. Geezzzz... guess I pasted the test. They hired me. In the meantime.. others in the same dept, doing the same thing.. are getting cut. It really sucks!

I have the option of either relocating, or them setting me up in my home with a home office. The office I work in will be offically closed in 45 days.

I always recall during these hard times an old saying, and I may not get it exactly right but...

Don't be sad over the present... be greatfull for the experience.

I sure have had some wonderful times with my co-workers thtough the years. Those memories bring a smile to my face. I truly am glad that I have had the opportunity to work with them.

Good luck with the future,

Rob

I'm sorry Tim. Your in my prayers. Their is a verse in the Bible that states,
"I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future."
I hope you may find encouragement in that.

God be with you ... Mark

Tim, while I've personally never had to go through this situation, other family members and friends of mine have, more times than I can count. As Steve mentions, it does all seem to work out in the end. You have my sincere best wishes for the future...

Johnny
