Hi All,
Am doing this for my hubbie as he is not familiar with the internet. He has really bad back problems. Has anyone heard that if you take coumadin you are not allowed to use medicinal creams such as Rub A535,Ice menthol Gel, etc.... a pharmacist told me this the other day. Would really love to hear back- maybe its just an old wives tale or maybe it does get into the blood system and interferes with the coumadin. : Thx

Ask this question in the anticoagulation forum. We have a wonderful friend here, Al Lodwick, who monitors that forum. He is an expert on Coumadin and he'll know that answer.

I know that some pain rubs have Lidocaine, and in my husband's case, he has been told not to use them because the Lidocaine can cause heart rhythm problems.

I was trying to find the ingredients in the stuff and they don't post them. They did post this however, though I question why:

Use with Care:

?If you are allergic to salicylates (ASA based drugs, such as Aspirin ), or if you are taking anticoagulant medications, do not use RUB A535® Heat, Arthritis, No Odour, Sport Ultra Heat, Dual-Action Cream or Patch for shoulders and neck products.

HOLY COW!!!!

Never thought about this. Fortunately I haven't had reason to use these, but I probably wouldn't have even thought to look at the warnings. I'm sure glad this thread came up.

There are a few reports of the INR going up, but I don't recall anything about actual harm being done.
