Hi Everyone!
This may sound like a weird question but here goes. My six year old daughter just went to a skating party and is now hooked on roller skating. I used to roller skate all the time when I was younger. I loved it but I haven't done it since I was in my early teens. I want to be able to take my kids roller skating and be able to do it with them. I am a little concerned because of being on coumadin. I know I will definitely fall at some point since it has been so long since I have been on quads. I have never been on inlines. How dangerous would it be for me to roller skate with my kids? We will most likely do indoor skating but I'm sure we will also skate outdoors as well.
Also, do any of you know if it is better to start skating on quads or on inlines? I'm not sure what would be best for my girls.

Thanks & Take Care!
Gail

I would make sure I used all the padding stuff that the kids hate because "it looks stupid". That way, when you fall, you can avoid those big, ugly, purply black bruises. I think the bruises would be the only problem and, as my cardio says when I get large bruises, "Gina, you are already on the hematoma medicine".

Have fun.

Gail, I used to skate all the time growing up, in fact if I say so myself I was pretty good. I haven't skated for probably about 30 years. For one thing I'm too fat. Can you imagine me falling! I'd probably break something for sure.

I say go for it and have fun. :) :)

The bruises might look ugly but bumping the head is downright dangerous. Wear a helmet. I just bought my 9 year old granddaughter one last Saturday - they have a lot that she thought were "cool".

Watch those indoor skating rinks... Those are the most popular birthday, ect. parties..going... O.K. if they are private parties with your daughter's age.... but..never go on a weekend...where the parents drop them off... for babysitting..All ages up to age 18..They are a bunch of showboats..Skating backwards, ect...Been there..done that. with Grandson.... The owners turn down the lights, ect...and many young ones get knocked down..Best, to skate outdoors... like in a quiet park.... with a helmet on.. :p Bonnie

Gail so long as where you go has floor guards that are doing their jobs and not allowing roughness and intentional knock downs, you should be fine. I'd make it a point to address my concern to those floor guards so that they can be especially watchful for nonsense while your on the floor.

Gail:

I just had my OHS and am on coumadin. And one of my questions to my doctors who were there everyday checking me over was... Can i ever go rollerblading again?? They said i sure could, but i had to wait untill i was fully healed. I told them i would take this summer off, but jeeze i didnt think i could take "the rest of my life off from it!!"

They just told me to make sure to wear the writst gaurds for protection so if i quicky place my hands and wrists down to help stop my fall.. and a helmet! So i said fine as long as i could keep on rollerbladding!!

And for future referece... inlinde rollerblades are MUCH easeir outside.. vs.. those roller skates... if you think you and your girls will get into the sport, then diffinately try out inline skates.. They make them in all differerent styles and weights (actual weight of skates)... if you need some suggestions i will gladly help...

Diesel -a female who loves to rollerblade!!!! :p
