DIdn't know which thread this would fit in. Is anyone else experiencing significant ringing in the ears? Is there any association between Warfarin and ear ringing?

I have it too to a degree.. check your BP as that can also be a signal for increased BP.. but most likely heart related Tinitus (sp)

What is the link with heart surgery and tinitus? Is this something those of us who have yet to undergo OHS should be aware of? Is this something we could develop?

Thanks!

My ears are ringing off the hook as we speak. I had this before OHS and have not noticed that it is worse but it sure as heck is not any better:mad:

At time I either don't have it or I just don't notice it. I have tried all sorts of fixes and none have worked. My primary doc said learn to live with it.

Same with my husband and he's a year and a half post-OHS. Been to our GP, an ENT, had an MRI, CATScan, the whole works...nothing. No hearing loss, no waxy buildup (makes him sound like a floor, huh?), nothing.

It drives him nuts. Our GP also said to live with it. Needless to say, that was the last straw for me with that particular quack. (Don't even get me started on his privacy law violation...)

Our cardio said that surgery can sometimes bring it on...it'll last for what seems like forever and then, WHAM! It's gone. Or it never leaves.

Came on with me a couple of months after surgery. I suspect the assortment of daily meds has something to do with it, but the docs aren't inclined to consider that. Occasionally it seems to quiet down a few decibels, so maybe eventually it will go away. Meanwhile I use a sound machine at night to mask the ringing.

I thought I was going bonkers!

I thought I was going bonkers!

I am a little over 4 mos post op and have just started to have ringing in my ears. I thought it was from not being able to sleep at night. Now that I've heard that other fellow valvers are experiencing ringing in the ears, it must be fairly common. I sure hope it doesn't continue, or I guess I will get used to it eventually.

I have an uncle who is or was (Don't know if he's still alive) Doctor in Arizona and he said that anesthesia medications can cause this, and yes, sometimes it's permanent, sometimes not.

I've had tinnitus for about 25 years. There has been no noticeable change since surgery. Luckily, it is not too severe a problem for me, as I am aware of it only in a quiet room.

I am unsure if it is at all associate dwith the AVR or just old age (44) and years in the military, but the reality is there is nothing I can do to remedy this confounded ringing. Does this lead to hearing loss or does it just act as an additional noise (?) source? In hearing tests, my hi range hearing (the high beeps) is nearly gone/or is it just masked by this constant ringing?

MSG -- in typical tinnitus, yes there is hearing loss. Usually it is a notch right in the middle of the audible range - if memory serves me correct, the notch loss is right around 3K.

tinnitus for about 10 years now.

tinnitus for about 10 years now.

If it is worse now after surgery, it has been gradual. Some nights it does get on my nerves. I also have a hard time hearing things, especially in the higher ranges.

we had a discussion on this very subject just a few short months ago and the general consensus was what they are all saying in this thread, that nothing can be done, that meds can cause it, other things can also cause it, and we all have to just hear 'over' it! I've had it many years. Maybe it's from an old ear injury, maybe it's from meds, maybe it's from both. Bothersome mess but we try to get used to it. I'm sorry you are having it, too. Wish we had better outlook for you. Blessins.....
