Hi,

Just got my report back from my hospital stay a couple of weeks ago; the cardio noted a right ventricular systolic pressure of 30mmHg as "abnormal."

Is this a big deal? This was a result on my resting echo.

Thanks,

Hi KIm,

My reference for Hemodynamic Cardiac parameters shows the normal right ventricular systolic pressure to be 20-30 and that would put you still in normal.

Thanks, Betty. He listed it next to the tricuspid regurg diagnosis, which raised some concern. Appreciate the speedy reply!

Happy New Year!

Kim, tricuspid insufficiency and right ventricular pressure are related. If the pressures in your heart were really backed up and causing pulmonary hypertension then the right ventricular diastolic pressure would be much higher. My RVSP is in the 40s which is still considered mild.

Echos arn't exact either. They can vary from day to day.

Are you feeling better now that you are on thyroid? I think about you and hope all is going well.

I got my echo report a few weeks back, looking for the news that my aortic valve was now leaking (since my dr. already called me about it), but also read that my tricuspid valve had regurg as well. I quickly called my cardio and asked why she didn't mention that I had a leaky tricuspid valve too. She said that it is because a lot of people - people w/out heart problems, have tricuspid regurg and that it was considered normal. Not knowing the amount of your tricuspid regurg, it's possible this could be your case as well.

Thanks again, Betty.

I'm not on thyroid meds yet. I talked to my PCP again today, and he'd like to rerun the blood work on Monday. He's being conservative. (The hospital had done the original test).

I appreciate your concern!

God bless,

Hi Kim,
I just looked at your profile and saw aortic and tricuspid insufficiency. So apparently you were already aware of the tricuspid issue. After reading the thread I was wondering if, like me, seeing that report on tricuspid regurg came as a surprise. How are they rating your tricuspid regurg and how does it compare to your aortic issues? Sorry if I confused you with my doctor's response on my slight tricuspid regurg.

Karlynn

I also have mild Tricuspid regurg and mild Mitral regurg. Both my cardiologist and my surgeon agreed that at the time of my surgery they were of no concern. Both stated that this is very common, that it was something to watch, but would probably never require any type of surgical intervention.

Rick & Karlynn, thank you.

I've always been told that the tricuspid leak was physiologically normal, i.e., common for my age and never gave it much thought. But I was surprised that the echo report said it was "abnormal" and listed my systolic pressure beside it. That was new for me. (It just means I'm getting closer to 40 ... ha).

I've always been told that the aortic insufficiency was abnormal, though, and that I might be climbing that mountain some day.

Peace,
