I got a phone call last Friday from the research department of the cardiology practice that I go to here in Charlotte. My electrophysiologist had given them my name. They are doing a study on defibrillators and asked if I'd be willing to participate. I agreed, and the young lady on the other end of the phone line sounded like she was jumping up and down. They must be having a hard time getting people to do this. All I have to do is go in and get hooked up to a Holter monitor, wear it for 24 hours, and get paid $100.00. Sounds good to me. I go in tomorrow. I'll find out more about exactly what they are researching. They did tell me that they are trying to find ways that defibrillators can be improved, so I figured it might benefit me some day also. LINDA

You be careful ya hear? Don't agree to put your life in jeopardy for some crazy idea that they need statistical studies on. If others have turned them down, there has to be a reason.

Ross, I'll be careful. I told them I didn't want anything to be done to my defib. like changing the settings, etc. I haven't had the thing go off in over two years, and I don't want to start now. They said it is just wearing the Holter. That seems pretty harmless, right? LINDA

cool...I was in a Medronic study for my defibrillator right after i got it..but I didn't get any money..

I would wear a holter for 100$

I just got a call from the cardiology research people and they were going over my chart and told me that I couldn't participate because I'm 100% dependent on my pacemaker and that disqualifies me. I was saved a trip downtown. Oh well. So much for the $100 mad money! LINDA

I think Holter Monitors are a pain in the posterior:cool: , so I don't know if I would have done it for $100. Maybe for the betterment of science.:D Plus if it were in downtown Chicago - I would have spent 1/2 the money getting there and back 2 times.
