Haven't looked real hard for an archived answer, but I am curious if "rejection" of a bovine valve is ever an issue?

Do they automatically give rejection medicine for a while?

No rejection for bovine or pocine valves (or carbon, for that matter) at all. No drugs for it.

Very minor issues with homograft (human donor valves), but moreso with ones used for the pulmonary replacement, which often seem to have a crisis point, then relent and normalize. No drugs for them, either, although I guess I could see a case for it sometimes.

Best wishes,

in the processing of tissue valve, my undertand of it is, they strip out
the chemical triggers that activates the immune response by the body.
As Bob stated, a rejection problem is extremely rare and if it happens they have very low dose drugs to deal with it- it is nothing like an organ tranplant.

Der, you have a better chance of being in a car accident on the way to the
hospital than having rejection problems. Relax, your paying doctors who spend their whole life on these problem BIG money to worry. You will be fine!:)

Rejection is only a problem with "living" tissue. A bovine or porcine valve is not living tissue. It is tissue that has been treated chemically in a process, somewhat like tanning leather, as I understand it.
