today i went for my cardiac rehab orientation.we all did 2 minutes on all the equipment...it amazed me that open heart surgery can zap your energy like that! of course-i had the pericardial window put in,too..so-i'll go mon-wed-fri.part of me is ready and part isn't! oh-and i was the youngest one there, too.i still have that bad pain in my sternum. cardiologist has 3 theories-the wires in my sternum-i take a long time to heal-diabetic neuropathy. so now she gave me scripts for lyrica and percocet 10/650...sorry-i'm babbling!!!!

I went for my consult today too. I was by far the youngest but there is supposed to be one other person there in their 30,s. I know what you mean about ready but not. I take 25 minutes to walk 1 block and I am 4.5 weeks out of surgery now. I really thought I would recover faster but I haven't. My cardio even told me to slow down a bit as my procedure was a bit more complicated. I am hoping rehab will improve my endurance so I can get back to work. I took Lyrica when I had shingles earlier this year. It is an amazing drug. I hope it works well for you!

I was not the youngest at rehab, but I was 1 of 2 valve replacements. There was a 42 year old lady who had double bypass.

Take rehab slow, they may have you ride a bike but you won't use the handles until around 8 weeks. If you don't like the bike (I did not) tell them, they'll switch your activities.

My sternum was still a bit sore at 8 weeks or so, see if you can take a couple advil or aleve rather than painkillers, sometimes the nerves they cut through take a longer time to heal. If the advil or aleve works, it's possibly nerve pain.

Anyone on Coumadin / Warfarin should ASK their Doctor (preferably their Cardiologist or Surgeon) about taking Advil or Aleve BEFORE trying it.

Yes they should discuss with their doctor, I discussed with my coumadin clinic, they said that tylenol is preferred but if an anti-inflammatory is necessary on a continual basis, the coumadin dosage would need to be adjusted. I don't take anti-inflammatories continuously, I'm not suggesting someone take it without dr advice.

well-i AM on coumadin-so idon't touch that stuff...tho i really miss my aleve !!!!! i was given the lyrica ciz it is for nreve pain. and i saw my primary doc today and she said it is probably just nerve pain cuz the nerves were severed during surgery.....so i will double my lyrica...doc says we can go much higher on it,to....at 4 pm cstiwill start rehab......wish me luck! trish
