Wondering what form of scar treatment you were told to use and what you did use and the outcome. I was told vitamin e or myderma and massaging the area once the scar has healed (6 to 8 weeks after surgery) and to keep the area out of the sun for one year.

nobody has found anything that's really successful. I used vitamin e cream. Didn't seem to change anything. Others may see this post and have something to contribute.

I posted a couple of weeks ago about this. I tried creams and also an Rx cortisone tape post-surgery and none of it did anything but irritate my skin. At just over 6 months post-op I had a cortisone shot in the keloid (raised) portion of my scar that did the trick as far as flattening it. For the redness I am going to start laser therapy next month, which will take a few treatments over a period of time. Some people's fade over time to where they aren't very noticeable, you just have to wait and see how your skin reacts. As I said the creams didn't work for me, but maybe they do for others.

I think it's just in ones mind, that these things do anything. Didn't work for mine either.

Most of the doctors I spoke with about scar handling, told me to do nothing for at least six months. One of the best nurses I've ever encountered quietly told me on the side to use the vitamin E capsules....break them open and spread on my scar as soon as it is fully healed. I really trust her advice. GREAT nurse.

I'm still deciding if I will do that or not. My last scar healed very well by doing nothing. Surgeon followed exactly along my first scar when he did my re-op. I can't imagine it won't be 'double thick' and not very pretty but it's too early to tell yet.

I read about some herbs that are supposed to help; like calendula &gotu kola.
You are supposed to let it infuse into an oil like olive ,sunflower and vit E and then strain out the herbs after a week or so of sitting in the sun. This is prob more trouble than its worth, but I tried it anyway and added rosemary to
increase circulation and aloe as its good for healing of skin.
I've been using it but I cant tell if or how much it helps.
It does seem to be good as a facial moisturizer.

My scar healed quite nicely. It was to the point where I hardly took notice of it; however, after a week in the Arizona sun it's very noticable now. I've got a nice white stripe down the center of my chest surrounded by nicely tanned skin.
