The guidelines were changed 1-2 years ago.
Total < 200
LDL < 130
HDL > 40
Trygl < 150
Also, the guidelines suggest that the ratio Total:HDL be less than 5.0

Blood pressure standards were also changed (lowred), as were the recommendended fruits and veggies (raised).

The Cholesterol Hoax.

The Cholesterol Hoax.

I have believed for years now that the cholesterol hype is one big hoax. They keep changing the numbers just to sell te dangerous high priced drugs. Read about all the problems people are having with those drugs and remember they are all in the same family, so not one is better than the other. Read up on Baycol.. They took that one of the market several years ago. People died..
Our liver produces more cholesterol in a day than we can eat, so go figure...

I bought the book...

Hi Christina, could you give us just a brief idea of what the book says ....i.e., is there another cause of athersclerosis/heart attacks etc. and if so, what. (inflammation is being talked about a lot now)...

Thanks,
Nan

Exposing the Fallacy that Saturated Fat and Cholesterol cause Heart Disease.

Exposing the Fallacy that Saturated Fat and Cholesterol cause Heart Disease.

Hi Nan,

I will type the introduction in the book as I can't explain it better than Dr. Uffe Ravnskov. MD, PhD
For a full explanation and interesting reading, please buy the book. It is informative and an eye opener. The book is called: THE CHOLESTEROL MYTHS and costs $20.00 + S/H
Please know that I have nothing to do with the sales of this book. I am just interested in exposing the truth.

The Diet-Heart Idea: A Die-Hard Hypothesis.
The great tragedy of Science - the slaying of a beautiful hypothesis by an ugly fact. Thomas Huxley (1825-1895)

Did you know.... that cholesterol is not a deadly poison, but a substance vital to the cells of all mammals?
That your body produces three to four times more cholesterol than you eat?
That this production increases when you eat only small amounts of cholesterol but decreases when you eat large amounts?
That the "prudent" diet, low in saturated fat and cholesterol, cannot lower your cholesterol more than a small percentage?
That the only effective way to lower cholesterol is with drugs?
That many of the new cholesterol-lowering drugs are dangerous to your health and may shorten your life?
That the new cholesterol-lowering drugs, called statins do lower heart disease mortality, but this is because of effects other than cholesterol lowering? Unfortunately, they also stimulate cancer, at least in rodents.
Did you know that you may become aggressive or suicidal if you lower your cholesterol too much?
That Polyunsaturated fatty acids, those which are claimed to prevent heart attacks, stimulate infections and cancer in rats?
That if you eat too much polyunsaturated oil you will age faster than normal? You will see this on the outside as wrinkled skin. You can't see the effects of premature aging on the inside of your body but you will certainly feel them.
That too much polyunsaturated oil may provoke atheroscleosis? That people whose blood cholesterol is low develop just as many plaques in their blood vessels as people whose cholesterol is high? That more than 30 studies of more than 150.000 individuals have shown that people who have had a heart attack haven't eaten more saturated fat or less polyunsaturated oil than other people? That old women with high cholesterol live longer than old women with low cholesterol? That many of these facts have been presented in scientific journals and books for decades but proponents of the diet-heart hypothesis never tell them to the public? That the diet-heart idea and the cholesterol campaign create immense prosperity for researchers, doctors, drug producers and the food industry?

There is much more.... but you should get the idea.

So, what do you think is the real cause of heart disease? I believe it is because we don't eat enough red meat. The wholesome "gras fed beef that I was used to eating in my child hood".Not the grain fed beef that we buy these days in the grocery stores. This beef is injected with hormones and antibiotics and who knows what else, they are not telling us.
People these days are afraid, because doctors tell them it is bad for you. Of all the different substances they measure in your blood, the deadliest risk factor for heart disease is not cholesterol, but a chemical called HOMOCYSTEINE. But it is easy to cut down your Homocysteine levels, vitamin B6, B12 and by far the richest source of these vitamins is: Red meat.

I wish you all great health.

I first was diagnosed with borderline high cholesterol when I was 25. I had 201 fasting. My latest cholesterol reading at age 43 was 234. Six years ago when I had my cath prior to heart surgery, my arteries, etc. were clean. Obviously, my "high" cholesterol is not bothering my arteries and I refuse to go on any diet or take another drug. Thank you Christine for this information.

Hi Christina, thanks so much for typing all of that in! That was a lot! Yes, it seems that homocysteine is more and more being looked at for the cause of heart attacks etc. Interesting...

Thanks again.

Nan

C-reactive Proteine. (CRP)

C-reactive Proteine. (CRP)

To Nan,

I received Dr. Mercola's newsletter today and one of the articles mentions C-reactive Protein. Linked to inflammation, it is noted that the higher the level of this protein, the greater the risk of heart attacks. In fact, some researchers have suggested CRP itself might be the culprit behind heart disease.

Thanks Christina, I have to take a long look at that!!! I already have a clogged carotid artery....it is definitely clogged with cholesterol, and one heart artery also....I wonder if just the clogging is enough to cause a problem...it certainly seems so with the carotid, or if you have to have the inflamation issue also. Just wondering "aloud" .

Thanks for that link!
