 What should the range be for a mechanical mitral valve be? I have a CarboMedics. I take Warfarin (insurance will only pay for this).

Another person that hasn't been told what it's supposed to be? 2.5 to 3.5 in the Mitral position. If they haven't told you that, I can only imagine the Bull that they did tell you. If you have more questions, just ask. It's amazing what kinds of terror they try to spread.

What Ross said. From what I've read here, European standard for mechanical mitrals goes up to 4.0. Mechanical mitrals (I've got one) call for a relatively high INR.

Didn't quite understand your insurance statement. Your insurance will only pay for brand-name Coumadin, not for generic Warfarin? If so, no great loss - I'm on generic Warfarin because of the added expense of the brand-name drug, and I've found that my INR is more stable with the brand-name stuff. Apparantly it's common for the brand-name to produce more stable INR's than the generic.

Scarlett,
You should not have been discharged from the hospital without these basic facts. The fact that you are in real estate makes me think that you are a detail-oriented person. Therefore, I am worried that it has been over a year and you have been given so little information.
