I had my eyes checked a few months back..by real eye doctor..Was scripted new lens, ect...Paid a lot for all, frames, lens (that turn into dark outside)ect..However, I still find that after reading a newspaper..Newletter, ect. after 30 minutes..my eyes are blurried.:( stays that way for about an hour..).....I always try to have good lighting.....Is it my age? anyone over the age of 60 have this problem? My late mother read without reading glasses all her life. (age 82 when she passed)..I don't have this problem on computer or even driving a long distance..just reading?..My sister says, the same thing..she cannot read..but stays on computer all day at her job?...eye doctor told me that my lens would be 20/20..?.....so, why the blurry eyes after reading? Bonnie

I don't know Bonnie if it is just our age or what. I've been having blurred vision as well as actual double vision and think it might be a side effect of the flecainide I'm on. I talked to my PCP about it and I have an eye appt on the 22nd. Have you started on any other medications or supplements that may be affecting your vision? Maybe your eyes are just fatigued. Take the hour nap then pick up the book again?

You might want to buy books with the larger print.

Thanks, Betty for replying back. No new meds..Don't take anything but my Warfarin....I'm starting to think it it an allergy in my home.Hubby has replaced the carpet in den with hardwood...Planning on tearing the carpet out of the rest of house after Xmas.(Other than bedroom)Going to all hardwood flooring..We even took bedding off and aired it all day, yesterday..We have 2 cats..but have had cats all my life?.....I think this, because my eyes never water ..when I am away from house?..Noticed that eyes have watered, too. beside the reading?......No double vision..:) Bonnie

Hi Bonnie, I have also had the same thing with my eyes, I got new glasses about 3 months ago and still have some blurred vision.. My doctor did tell me that I have some cataracts forming, could be that???? Rose

Yes, doctor said he saw 1 small one..cataract..but should not give me problems for many years...Bonnie

Bonnie, if it's only reading, you might need bi-focals - or your lens might need a change. You may have been having trouble all along and it was so gradual you didn't notice it until it reached a certain stage. I had some eye surgery in March and got new glasses but kept my old ones. I can't read properly the computer with the new glasses (I have bi-focals, too) but with my old glasses I can a read really well (the computer). I use the new glasses for everything else, including reading printed matter. Go figure.

When it's your eyes, don't mess around.

Bonnie:

Have you verified that the Rx in the new glasses is what was ordered?

Another thought: I have corneal erosion in both eyes, have had cornea debrided in the left eye 2 years ago. Corneal erosion can cause blurred vision and severe pain, just like a corneal abrasion. I had first episodes when I was in college; it was not diagnosed until 2004 -- 34 years after the first symptoms. I had been to the ophthalmologist and/or optometrist many times during those years. Go figure!
My husband has had corneal erosion -- diagnosed as "fingerprint map dystrophy" in his case. His only symptom was blurred vision. He had both corneas debrided.
My dad has had this in one eye, but it resolved w/out the procedure.

You might ask your ophthalmologist to rule out a problem with the corneas.

Ann..New lens are progressive.? ..no lines..No problems with distance. Can see a bird in tree, ect.:D Marsha..thanks, will write that down..but I was gone all day and drove about 120 miles. no watering of eyes, ect......I have noticed a crust in eyes when I awake. last year, local clinic doctor dx me patanol..When I went to pick it up. tiny bottle, clerk said, $90.00....I said, no, I just want an eye med?she said, that's it. ..It (eye crust cleared up)..may have to go for another refill.......I'm still thinking allergy..and not good lighting....I have seen ads on T.V. ,ect. for that lamp that makes it look like being outside? They are expensive..but if I am going to get back into readin Novels, ect. may break down and order one. bonnie

Go for the lamp, Bonnie. I have one for reading and one by the computer and I couldn't live without them now. Hope you get some answers soon.
Best wishes,
Phyllis
