Hi everyone, it has been a while since I checked in...I am back to work now fullk time and taking care of kids...and living my crazy schedule, and no time to be on computer any more.... BUT I feel GREAT!!!! I am flying tomorrow for the first time since my valve repalcement in sept. Any suggestions??? Will I have any problems with security??? or is there anything else I should know????
I hope this finds everyone well and and although I don't spend as much time on line as I use to ...I talk to everyone about the support I found here leading up to and after my surgery!!!

Hi Dana,
I've only have flown a few times after surgery and surprisingly I have not set of any alarms due to my mechanical valve. Although I do go thorough security rather early just on case and, if its a long flight I make sure I take a trip or two to farthest bathroom just for the exercise.

I have just told the first security personal I see that I have a mechanical heart valve and that I might set the x-ray machine off. The response I get is rather amusing.......they get very concerned if I can go thorough the machine at all and they ask me if its like a pacemaker or a stint. I always have my medical papers handy just in case I come across a jerk who just wants to "see" which hasn't happened yet.

Don't panic, you'll be fine and where ever you are going ...have a great time.

I have gone thru many security gates, and the only thing to set it off was my shoes, so just take em off ahead of time. My mech valve never sets it off.
My husband always removes his belt, watch and shoes.
Oh, and if you accidentally have a water in your carry-on, beware, as you are treated like a major bomb threat!
