Is it a normal for the surgeon to perform a TEE just prior to surgery? If so, is it done right in the operating room? Is it done after you are "put under"? What is the purpose of doing it?

My last day of work was last Friday. (The plant is closing down on April16) In a few minutes I'm leaving to go say good-bye to all my friends and co-workers there. :(

Once again, thanks for all the information.

It seems to be a standard practice any more Tim. They usually wait until your in the OR and have been put out. Don't sweat it, you won't know about it. I didn't know they did another one on me until I got the hospital bill. Sure enough, just before surgery, another TEE was performed. :)

Sorry to hear about the plant closing. We've felt it in this family too, so your not alone. I do hope this economy can get started again soon. It doesn't look good for anyone that I know.

Ithink we will have to way until the great bush economic plan leaves office!

Tim,
Once you are "under" they sometimes do a TEE, then another when they're done but before closing you up. This gives immediate pre- and post-surgical comparisons. Don't worry, you won't be aware of any of this...they're just trying to do the best job possible.

The plant closing on top of this sucks, and I sympathize. Shortly before my own surgery, the company I'd worked with for 20 did a merger and pulled up stakes from Minnesota. It wasn't long before the "old guard" was out of there! Fortunately, I had a family-owned business to fall back on, but the rotten economy has not helped that either.

Let's hope that things get resolved quickly on the geopolitical end, and the economy rebounds.

Best wishes,
John
