We are going for the pre-op tests tomorrow. I am interested is some of your input as to what are good questions to ask the Anesthesiologist when we visit with him.

Thanks in advance!!

I guess I wouldn't call this a question but if you have problems with your neck or perhaps a shoulder, I would really ask him to take special precautions to have them handle that part with extreme caution. I have a very bad shoulder that I had no trouble with after surgery and I'm sure the extra padding and care they took in positioning saved me a lot of pain.

My thoughts and prayers are with you this week.

Hi Chevy Man,
Be sure he tells you about the breathing tube especially if you have any caps or crowns in your mouth.
I'm sure he will know why you asked.
It has to do with the breathing tube.
As some people are starting to come out of that deep sleep there may be a tendency to bite down hard on that tube still stuck in your mouth.
Don't let it worry you much though, I have a lot of caps and crowns and had no problem at all.

If you know pain killers make you sick to your stomach, discuss that with him. There are other options besides the usual narcotics. Otherwise, just tell him to "juice you up" and go for it!
Best of luck!!! I know it will go just fine!!

Betty is right - tell him to make sure your body is handled very, very carefully. You don't want to wake up with any pain except that one in the middle of your chest...............

Express your concerns - there are options, and if they know what you are worried about, they can address it. I was terrified of waking up intubated. AA said not to worry - he was giving me a drug in pre-op (I'm sorry I don't have the name - the nurses referred to it as the "I don't care drug") that would handle it. It did, as I have no memroy of the whole incident.

I found thruout this adventure that whenever you express openly and take an interest in any aspect, the professionals are quick to accomodate.

Good luck!

?s to ask

?s to ask

tell him or her if you choke easily. also include anything you are allergic to. be sure to ask him/her to make you feel really really gooood!!! Also let him know if you want to remember much of anything. let him know if drugs in the past seem to wear off fast or not. DO NOT lie about any alchohal use! And be sure to pull down your pants and slide on the ice!!!!!
