Questions for Cardio (MVP)/ Appt. Tomm. 8/16/05

Hello,

I see the Cardio Tomm. and was going to put a list of questions together to ask him so that I do not forget. I was wondering what questions I should ask specifically about my MVP and possible upcoming surgery. I figure some of you have done this or have questions you wish you had asked. I have posted my echo results in an earlier thread "Is repair or replacement in my future?" Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Appt. @ 4 pm ET, here is my list so far:

1. Does my echo indicate the need for repair or replacement?

2. If "Yes" why?

If "No" why?

3. Is the enlargment of the LV and the thickening of the wall signs of more
severe or possibly un-reversible damage if no surgery is done?

4. Exercise and effects (cycling 20-30miles 3-4 times a week training pace)

5. More tests?

6. If surgery repair or replace?

7. If replace what valve do you recommend tissue or mech?

8. If surgery what type (Heart Port or Sternum)?

9. Second opinion

10. Comfort level of this surgery on a patient with Malignant Hyperthermia
What is MH

11. What Surgeon & Anesthesiologist do you recommend?

Any others?

Well, your list looks pretty comprehensive. Apparently there was a lull in activity on the forums today and you didn't get pre-appointment input. I hope that doesn't discourage you from sharing your experience post-appointment.
