I have a question! I have been on Coumadin since last May. I take 5mg 4 days a week and 7.5 on 3 days. My INR has been stable all this time at 2.7. I had to stop taking coumadine 5 days before my cath and restarted the next day after. That was a week ago. My last test results were at 1.5. the doc has increased my dosage by adding .5 to my dosage so that I will now be on 7.5mg 4 days and 5mg for 3 days. I don't have it checked again for 2 weeks.

Is it unusual to have a problem getting back to the acceptable level after having been off for a week?

I have an answer---Nope, not at all unusual. This is why we all hate to have to stop once we get it stabilized. Sometimes it seems like forever before it's back where it should be.

Carla, I found your dosages interesting, for the cumulative amount is about the same as mine. I take 40, 41, or 42 mg a week. To do that, I have two prescriptions, for 5mg and 6mg. 6mg each day is 42 per week, so I can easily take a 5 instead of a 6 to lower to dosage. I get my prescriptions mail order, 90 pills at a time, so I never run low.
