I was rereading Andrew's summary from July and for some reason started wondering what a term meant that I hadn't latched onto before. It is talking about his echo and starts about his ventricles and valves (functions and gradients of the valves). "The MPI of the right ventricle is 0.5 which is increased." Anyone know or have a guess what the MPI is?

I would really like to know what it is.

The Doppler-derived myocardial performance index (MPI), defined as the sum of isovolumetric contraction and relaxation durations divided by ejection time and reflecting both systolic and diastolic myocardial function, has been found to be related to morbidity and mortality in cardiac diseases.

Hope this helps some.

Thank you! Where did you get that definition? I was trying to find a source of medical abbreviations on the net and had no luck.

Except here of course!:D

I would gather that an increase is good (or not?).
