Hello,

I been reading this forum for awhile and have noticed that many of you have had Aortic and Mitral (or another valve replaced). Are these somehow connected (if 1 goes than the other will follow?)? Is this a symtom of tissue disorder? Were many of you diagnosed with both valves at the same time or for example the mitral in 1998 with no problem on the Aortic but then the Aortic just became diseased in 2004?

Thank you

Nope. Some people have both bad due to infections, undiagnosed or improper diagnosis of the existing condition, which lead to other heart damage. Most only require the replacement of one or the other, but as with everything in life, there are those exceptions.

I have had many infections and have been lucky that only the mitral was affected. All my other valves continue to work just fine.

My aortic valve was the problem. But since it was calcifying shut, the back pressure from the blood not being able to get through caused some damage to the mitral valve as well, which needed a repair. Of course, I was out during the surgery, so maybe I don't know what I'm typing about.
