Can coumadin or a high INR affect a woman's cycle? I have had an IUD which has eliminated my cycle for at least a year and a half now (cant remember the last time) but all of a sudden I am now spotting again. Sorry if this is too much information, but wondering if it is known to interupt or affect a womens cycle.
I just had my INR tested today- 3.7
Sorry if this is too personal- feel free to PM me

This is just my own opinion, but wouldn't it be nice to dump the IUD and give your body a chance to be normal?
My hubby was neutered many years ago....I sure didn't need more trauma on my body, so he "took one for the team".

We have had quite a few chats about this issue here...I personally think it does make a difference and many of us report slightly heavier and/or longer periods. As is common among middle-aged women our cycles change as we head towards menopause so its kinda hard to tell if its strictly the Warfarin that causes this. I decided to have a Uterine Ablation which has been great. I did this as an alternative to a Hysterectomy. This is only an option if you dont want any more babies. It virtually wipes out 95% or more of the lining so it doesnt regrow anymore. If you are finished doing the Baby thing and sick of periods, then its probably time to re-assess you contraception.... maybe your hubby will take one for the team too.

The reason for keeping the IUD was because it was 99.9 percent effective, with nothing to remember, etc. AND my OB and PA thought it would be best to keep with Coumadin, since they said the regular monthy troubles are much worse with coumadin...another myth?

I never had an IUD...if its only a bit of spotting and its not really bothering you then I dont see why you need to change anything...like the saying "if it isnt broken why fix it?" ...if on the other hand you want to remove the IUD and lessen the impact periods have on your life, an Ablation is something to consider.

Thanks- I have never heard of an ablation- but I can definitely live with spotting if it is just every now and then. It is better than the alternative- and your right, if it aint broke, why fix it? I guess I was just wondering if the reason for the spotting is likely linked to the coumadin. Im guessing it is, since, like I wrote earlier, I cant even remember the last time I had spotting. Have had the IUD nearly 2 years. Am perfectly happy with it, as I dont have to think about anything, and no big procedures- very easy!

I have an IUD as well, I have had it for two and a half years now. I had a bit of spotting in the beginning but only very occasional spotting since. I have found it to be a really good option for me. The periods I had while on coumadin before I got the IUD were horrible, really heavy bleeding to the point where I didn't want to leave the house and I had to get up several times during the night in the first day or two. I don't want to go back there again!
