Al,
As I stated on an earlier thread my INR has been running on the low side, apparently due to my activity level.
In Sept it was 2.5, Oct 2.0, two checks in Nov which were 1.7 and 2.1, and two checks this month which were 1.9 and 1.8.
I have a St. Jude mechanical aortic valve and have been on Coumadin for about 7 1/2 years.
My dosage for a number of years has been 5mg on M,W,F and 2.5 the rest of the days. That amounts to 25mg per week.
Now my cardiologist wants me to make an adjustment as follows:2.5mg on Wed and Sat, then 5mg the rest of the week.
That is a 20% increase.
I remember reading on some earlier threads that a 10% adjustment should be tried before getting too drastic.
What do you think Al and would you have any recommendations for a schedule.
I am currently going for a blood draw every two weeks until this is settled and then hopefully back to once a month.

Rich

When an INR has been running low like yours has and it doesn't increase with the usual 10-15% changes, then a 20% increase may be appropriate.

What I worry about is people who have a 2.3 INR and get their dose doubled.
