Hi -- I was just wondering if anyone might be able to help me out a bit.. It has been 2 1/2 weeks since I had the ILR monitor put in and although part of teh scar has healed the 2 ends are not healing over as well and I am wondering of something that I might do to get that to close up + heal a little faster?

Also for those of you with pacemakers and ICD's did you need to use a
pain med after you had yours put in? For how long if you did? And what did you use? My doctor prescribed Darvocet which worked ok and did help me sleep but I am now wanting to ask about something that will work a little better than OTC tylenol/ibuprofen that I wouldnt need to take as often but that wouldnt have any real groggy side effects or be quite as powerful as the Darv.? I work as a nursing assistant and this is just my 2nd day back after the EP study and ILR insertion and pretty sore in that area today.

Thanks,
Erica

RE; pacermaker?

RE; pacermaker?

I have had nine pacers total and not once was I given anything for pain upon discharge.

I haven't had a pacer like you, but I've had temporary lines.

Usually for pain relief beyond simple OTC tylenol I've gotten tylenol 3's (with codiene) or darvocet like you.

Have to be real careful with what you take, most pain relievers will either wreak havoc with your protime or with other medications you're on or your heart rate itself.

Meds to avoid hands down would be excedrine (even aspirin free as I recall, but I can't remember off-hand now) and Aleve (naproxim sodium) which will make your heart either race marathons or feel like it's been squeezed or a "tight chest" feeling. Not good.
