Hi Everyone,

I just had a whole bunch of tests done to make sure all is well after my avr surgery and after meeting with my cardiologist he said everything was great-- so I'm sure this would have been brought up if not normal, but I just got the report back from all my tests and noticed it said that I have mild mitral valve regurgitation. I know before my surgery it was trivial. Does anyone know if it's normal to have maybe a little more regurgitation after having surgery?

Also on my radiology report it says there's mild paradoxical motion of the interventricular septum...anyone know what that means? It's all greek to me. Any help at all would be great.

Thank you all very much!

" mild paradoxical motion of the interventricular", I was told this is a post operative state of the ventricle. They do cut through the ventricle to access the valve. You will see this on subsequent echos. It has been present on all of my post op echos. 7 years worth.

On the reguirg. I am not certain why they would have done surgery if your valve was reguirgitating at a trival rate? Classifications are trival (being the least) mild 1-1+, moderate 2-2+, severe 3-3+. Most likely you were a 3 to 3+ severe before your surgery?

Carista,
There is probably very little difference between trivial and mild and is open to the interpretation of the tech. In other words, it may not have changed at all.
I would not worry about that.

Thanks for the replies, I was thinking it was nothing to worry about but just wanted to make sure. Also to clarify, I had surgery on my aortic valve due to stenosis, not my mitral valve. I just happened to notice on my report that my mitral valve had changed from trivial to mild.

Thanks for the help!
