I am 29 yrs old, recently diagnosed with BAV and am planning surgery within the next 1-2 months. I am currently without life insurance. will this diagnosis prevent me from obtaining life insurance?

I imagine it could, but i just wanted your opinions since yall may have dealt with this issue? Thanks

I think there have been some threads on this, other people might be able to help direct you to them since I'm relatively new. But, I have had problems obtaining life insurance too, 22 and recently diagnosed.

Almost certainly it will keep you from qualifying for new life insurance before the surgery. You may be able to find a small "guaranteed issue" plan, but be careful of the policy language. It may be possible to obtain life insurance after a time following the surgery, but it won't be easy. If you have group insurance, hang on to it. You have the right to convert some, or all, of your group insurance if you leave the employer. This is the ONLY way I have been able to obtain life insurance. Good Luck

It will be difficult. I found a policy once when I was looking for something to supplement my group coverage, but it was expensive and had limitations.

I have been meaning to find out what happens to my group coverage when I retire. Guess I will be able to convert it, but that's one of those things I will check into "tomorrow".

I didn't for me. I was able to get a 10 year term policy at age 50 even though my medical records indicated the BAVD was discovered at age 48. I made sure my agent didn't hide anything. I have a group policy from work and a small policy I took out many years ago. A good independent agent should be able to find you something.

Sometimes people can get coverage through their work in a group, maybe some small waiting period, but it is hard on your own.

I agree with the others in that if you try to get life insurance on your own it will almost be impossible or at a very, very high price! If you have life ins. through an employer, that's the ticket!

I was able to get a small life insurance policy thru AAA because it did not require a physical exam. Anything that requires an exam, forget it!

Yes, if & when you retire, you should be given the option to convert it.

And in my case, since I retired due to a disability, my premiums have been deferred so long as I remain disabled.
