My husband is having an aortic valve replacement in two weeks. For the past 19 years, he has always felt hot and I would have a quilt covering me. The past few weeks have been reversed. I was wondering if this can be caused by reduced circulation due to decreased pumping efficiency of the heart.

Hi Amy-

Prior to my husband's valve surgeries, his tolerance for heat was nil. He had to have the house temp at a very low point to feel comfortable and to be able to breath, one time I found it at 62 and he was comfortable. He perspired profusely. This was all due to his heart conditions.

When he was on heavy duty Lasix or Zaroxolyn, the loss of fluid and probably the lessening of CHF conditions allowed him to be much more comfortable with heat.

I'm happy to say that after valve surgery, this has all normalized and he has joined the warm blooded animal race. LOL.

I must say though that being on Coumadin, in the winter, if he gets chilled, he can develop severe chills along with uncontrollable shaking. So he has to be careful of getting too cold.
